What is your job at ALTEN?
I started as a Business Manager at the Stuttgart site. I was looking for a new challenge – I wanted to acquire more knowledge and learn new things. Before that, I was responsible for many strategic issues, such as analyzing figures and markets and the resulting opportunities for a company.
My area of responsibility has changed with my new job. Now my work covers three core areas: customer, margin, and personnel responsibility.
I look after existing customers and develop our business relationships, but of course I also generate new customers. I am also responsible for the satisfaction of our business partners and want to serve their needs in the best possible way.
This collaboration creates personnel requirements. My team and I search specifically for suitable employees.
My recruiters help me fill the vacancies in the best possible way. We place job ads, review applications, plan interviews, and conduct them.
But of course, we also support our colleagues by introducing and recommending candidates to them.
Since I am also responsible for my entire business area, it is important to always keep an eye on margins and operate profitably.
What is your highlight at our company?
I worked a lot in my previous job. At ALTEN, I enjoy my work more again. No two days are the same; you always have new impressions and variety.
I have a lot of responsibility and freedom in my job. At the end of the day, I can see what I’ve achieved, but I also must take responsibility for it if necessary. However, I think there’s always a cause-and-effect relationship between freedom and responsibility.
How do you get along with your coworkers?
The work environment is like a family. We enjoy spending our breaks together, going for coffee, or grabbing a bite to eat. We help each other out with the daily madness.
Team events give us additional opportunities to network – many people are extroverted, which makes it easier to meet new people and make contacts.
What is your management style? What is important to you as a boss?
Transparency is most important to me. I don’t want anything to be kept from me; I want my employees to be honest with me – I am honest with them, after all. Communication on an equal footing is particularly important to me. I value ambition and motivation in the people I work with.
What is the management style like for you as an employee?
I am responsible for my own actions and those of my employees. My supervisor makes sure that I do my job well – that’s not a bad thing, it motivates me to do my best. We have a collegial relationship and I can address issues openly and directly. Continuing education measures are readily supported. I have already taken advantage of several offers.

What advice would you give to new colleagues?
Don’t forget to smile.
Every beginning is difficult. It takes time to understand all the structures, processes, and abbreviations. You must give yourself some time to settle in, but then everything falls into place. There are always difficult days, but a smile makes everything easier.
