When and how did you join ALTEN?
I started as a working student in Business Management at ALTEN in January 2023. I have been a Business Manager at Hamburg site since October 1st.
As a working student, I organized and delivered training courses. But the goal was also to introduce me to the work of a Business Manager from the very beginning. During this period, I got to know and supported all the important processes – from preparing quotations and conducting interviews to customer appointments. I had the opportunity to get to know different areas and always had a coach at my side. My day-to-day work was exciting and varied.
What skills do you need for your job?
Strong communication skills, basic technical understanding, and willingness to learn.
What new things have you learned recently?
Quite a few. Among other things, assessing candidates, salary negotiations, and preparing quotations – my learning experience was very varied.
The most interesting thing for me was learning about the tendering process and how to best present yourself to ultimately win the project.
What is your highlight here?
The team. I get on very well with my colleagues and we communicate on an equal footing. We have great dynamics, exchange, and support. My team and the recognition I receive from my colleagues motivate me at work.
You don’t have to decide right from the start which role you want to take on. You can develop in different areas within the company. If you are open-minded, you can develop in many ways. During your time here, you get to know yourself and the work and then find your place.
What was your biggest challenge?
Coming out of my shell and leaving my comfort zone.
What advice would you give to new colleagues?
Approach things with calm and composure. It can be a lot to take in at once, so it’s best to take notes. You’ll always be meeting new people, so be open when interacting with others and when receiving criticism and keep learning.
