Principal Test Engineer
Utz is a test engineer at the Nuremberg site. Outside of work, Utz is involved in the ALTEN community test and regularly attends Office Friday.
What does your typical workday look like?
It’s varied; every day is different. In addition to my customer projects, where I mostly work as a test manager or test process consultant, I give internal and external training courses, assist with tenders, develop workshops and training courses, impart specialist knowledge, and conduct technical job interviews.
What was your coolest project?
I worked as a senior test manager in internal data processing at a large Franconian company. The project involved test strategy, training concepts, and general consulting activities.
You spend a lot of your free time playing video games – what exactly fascinates you about them?
Even as a small child in the 1980s, I was fascinated by the idea of moving and influencing things on the TV myself. This fascination continued to grow and, combined with my collector’s gene, led me to collect video games and take an interest in their history, even back in the days of the C-64. Later, I developed an interest in the technical side of things, and the fact that I have witnessed the development of video games from the VCS-2600 to the present day has certainly helped. Back then, the technical advances from one generation to the next were still quite impressive.
Currently, I like to use video games to incorporate technical features, problems, and bugs into lectures in an entertaining way and explain them using interesting examples. This has now grown into a collection of eight lectures covering all kinds of interesting topics in the field, which is constantly growing.
What advice would you give to new colleagues?
Get involved in areas that interest you. This will improve your working environment and help you develop personally.
What makes ALTEN a good employer for you?
The variety of tasks, the freedom to shape my own work, my colleagues, the flexible working hours, and the opportunity to organize my daily routine according to my needs.
What are the training opportunities at ALTEN?
I am jointly responsible for designing and developing training opportunities. We are constantly working to expand our range of offerings and are particularly proud of our communities, where we not only impart knowledge but also advance the topic itself and actively participate in conferences and other events both within and outside the company. I am also actively involved in organizing “Office Friday,” an internal conference that takes place every last Friday of the month and covers topics from all communities as well as external speakers.
